It is a beautiful morning in Mornelle Court, Toronto. Kids are getting ready to leave for school. Waiting in green vests outside their homes is the Safe Walk Program volunteers, ready to walk them safely to Military Trail Public School. They have been a part of these children's lives from as early as ages 6 to when they turn 13.
Between 8:00 am and 8:45 am they would walk through a neighborhood that was formally scarred with death and violence, to school. Not only does the program make sure they get to school safely but it also brings them back to their homes.
From 3:45 pm to 6:00 pm kids, who are registered with the Mornelle Allstars Afterschool Program, have an exciting time as they engage in activities that help them gain confidence, do better in school and develop healthy living habits. They receive a nutritional snack and, wow! there is also a soup program too!
